Section titled “Introduction to the KCNA Exam”Preparing for KCNA
Section titled “Preparing for KCNA”The following course was particularly helpful during my preparation:
To successfully take the exam, it is essential to have a stable and sufficiently fast Internet connection. Note: the required bandwidth is higher than the one needed for the KCNA certification, which I had previously taken using a mobile box due to an outage affecting the wired network.
There are several ways to test the quality of your connection. Microsoft provides a tool that automatically checks whether your system meets the requirements, both in terms of bandwidth and machine performance.
To ensure a reliable connection and minimize the risk of interruptions, I strongly recommend using a wired (Ethernet) connection rather than Wi-Fi.
Checking my computer compatibility
Section titled “Checking my computer compatibility”Linux is not a supported operating system for this exam. I therefore took it on Windows without any issues.
Checks on exam day
Section titled “Checks on exam day”On the day of the exam, I made sure to clear out the room as much as possible. The only items left were:
- a bed about 2 meters away from my desk,
- my desk (drawers emptied),
- my ID card,
- my laptop, connected to an external camera.
For identity and environment verification, I used an option that sent a link to my phone. I then had to:
- Take a photo of my ID card (only with the rear camera, which was problematic as mine was damaged, luckily I had another phone at hand),
- Take photos of my workspace from several different angles.
A fully cleared desk with only your exam equipment is recommended. I strongly advise against any attempt to cheat, I suppose the proctor can at any moment ask you to show anything suspicious via the camera.
The AZ-900, however, remains a relatively straightforward certification.
Overall experience
Section titled “Overall experience”I took the test on a Saturday morning. It officially started at 8:15 a.m., but the verification process could begin 30 minutes earlier.
Since only one exam slot per day was available, many candidates were waiting after the ID check. I was placed 27th in the queue for the final verification by the proctor.

I read the first 100 pages of this book and found it to be of very good quality. In hindsight, I might have started my preparation with it.
I can’t vouch for the book in its entirety since I haven’t finished it, but it definitely looks worth trying. Note: I got it through Humble Bundle, which often offers bundles of technical books at much lower prices compared to buying them individually.
